The Silence of the Abbey
In Realm of the Crown they say the walls have ears — and this time the saying has proven true. The Chancellery has caught only the end of the thread; the whole skein is still in someone's hands. The testimonies keep returning to the same names: Princess Smaranda, Ilinca the Baker, Petru the Herald, Lady Ruxandra and Iustin the Mariner. Rumor walks the deed through every corner: the customs cellar, the cathedral crypt, the wharf, the abbey library and the guild forge. The threads were tangled on purpose: investigate, weigh every word, and pronounce your verdict only when the grid leaves no room for doubt.

The silver casing is old craftsmanship; the nails that hold it were driven this week.
The glass cracked, the wick burned to the end. Someone needed a lot of light, fast.

The culprit always lies; everyone else tells the truth.

- An honest-faced witness saw it plainly: Princess Smaranda was in the place where goods arrive in the fog.
- The customs register is clear: the abbey library and the inheritance do not go together.
- A maid whispered it at confession: the broken lantern and the inheritance go together.
- At the Chancellery, Petru the Herald maintains: "I was driven by a debt of honour".
- The chronicler notes drily: the silver candelabrum and greed go together, whatever the court may say.
- The chancellor deduced it coldly: if Lady Ruxandra handled the broken lantern, then Petru the Herald was in the place where the fire never goes out.
- The tracks in the dust do not lie: Iustin the Mariner handled the silver candelabrum.
- The chronicler notes drily: the small wine cask and jealousy go together, whatever the court may say.
