The Shadow of Vespers
In the shadow of the council halls, something has been woven against the crown, and its threads lead far. The scheme has many threads but a single knot — and that knot bears a name. On the Chancellery's list stand Lady Ruxandra, Elisei the Stargazer, Princess Smaranda, Iustin the Mariner and Tintar the Jester; one of these names covers a lie. On the inquiry's table, like pieces in a game, lie the purse of gold coins, the guild seal, the ledger of accounts, the locked chest and the small wine cask. A sharp eye is not enough here — it takes an archivist's patience: fit everything together, then pronounce your verdict.

Three padlocks, two rows of straps. Fresh scratches around the hinges, not the locks.

Arin wine, the good year. The bung was pulled and put back by an unskilled hand.
