The Hour of the Court
The whispers began in Realm of the Crown like thin smoke; now the smoke smells of conspiracy. Those caught in it swear they knew nothing; one of them swears falsely. On the Chancellery's list stand Zaharia the Spice Merchant, Damaschin the Healer, Lady Ruxandra, Balasa the Seamstress and Chamberlain Iorgu; one of these names covers a lie. As for the impulse behind it, the court whispers of everything: a debt of honour, ambition, revenge, greed and jealousy. The threads were tangled on purpose: investigate, weigh every word, and pronounce your verdict only when the grid leaves no room for doubt.

His ships bring pepper, saffron, and news no one asked for. All of it at the same price: steep.

The queen's shadow at every hour. She hears everything, sees everything, and embroiders all she learns into patterns known only to her.

Locations
Gold, purple, and the most closely watched place in the kingdom. In theory.
Thousands of leather-bound tomes. Some of the chains on the shelves were cut recently.
Roses trimmed to a line and paths you may walk only by invitation. At night, the hedge has ears.
Here anything is bargained for, from salt to silences. The price of silence keeps rising.
Anvils, tongs, and a fire that never goes out. Many small metal things vanish here.
Objects
Whoever holds it can seal any decree. Which is why it should not be wandering the kingdom.
Beads of golden resin strung on a silk thread. The thread is broken and hastily reknotted.
The stamp that turns any goods into goods "of certified quality." Worth a mine of gold.
An old weapon, forgotten on the rack. The rust on the blade is newer than it looks.
Three padlocks, two rows of straps. Fresh scratches around the hinges, not the locks.
Motives
a debt of honour
Moments
When the citadel is barely waking and the guards still doze.
The hour after the morning service, when the abbey empties.
Midday, with bustle in the markets and silence in the alcoves.
When the shadows lengthen and the lanterns are not yet lit.
At the evening service, when the bells drown out any footstep.
