The Hour of the Abbey
A seal that never lies has been placed, this once, in the service of a lie. The forgery is skilled: only an eye trained on the archives found its flaw. Suspicion has fallen on Lady Ruxandra, Sava the Bell-Ringer, Petru the Herald, Zaharia the Spice Merchant and Ilinca the Baker — and until the proof is plain, none of these names leaves the room. The hours in question: "at dawn", "after matins", "at noon", "at dusk" and "at vespers". Few files have tested so many investigators; untangle the threads, catch the lie, and pronounce your verdict.

Locations
Moored boats, wet ropes, and goods that prefer to arrive in the fog.
Roses trimmed to a line and paths you may walk only by invitation. At night, the hedge has ears.
Thousands of leather-bound tomes. Some of the chains on the shelves were cut recently.
Carpets brought from overseas and a desk with more secret drawers than drawers.
The old kings sleep beneath crested slabs. Now and then, someone disturbs their rest.
Objects
Light, accurate, with a walnut stock. Exactly one bolt is missing from the quiver.
Whoever holds it can seal any decree. Which is why it should not be wandering the kingdom.
The stamp that turns any goods into goods "of certified quality." Worth a mine of gold.
Neat columns of figures, with one page torn out exactly at mid-month.
The glass cracked, the wick burned to the end. Someone needed a lot of light, fast.
Motives
a debt of honour
O făgăduială care cântărește mai greu decât viața.
the inheritance
Moments
When the citadel is barely waking and the guards still doze.
The hour after the morning service, when the abbey empties.
Midday, with bustle in the markets and silence in the alcoves.
When the shadows lengthen and the lanterns are not yet lit.
At the evening service, when the bells drown out any footstep.
